Strategic Planning

The Other Hill

Transforming Historic Spaces for Community

The Other Hill is a unique placemaking organization in Ottawa’s historic Sandy Hill neighbourhood. Positioned at the intersection of civic dialogue and community-building, the organization is transforming underutilized spaces into active hubs for conversation, programming, and public engagement.

As part of its growth trajectory, we worked closely with the Board of Directors to guide a strategic planning process grounded in stakeholder engagement and facilitated workshops. The resulting plan provides a clear and actionable roadmap to strengthen governance, activate partnerships, advance placemaking efforts, and ensure the long-term sustainability of this one-of-a-kind organization.

Project Highlights

Clear Strategic Framework
We built a multi-year plan focused on governance, partnerships, placemaking, and visibility, providing the Board with a practical structure to guide growth and decision-making.

Placemaking as Civic Engagement
We developed strategies to transform The Other Hill into a leading gathering place for inclusive, accessible programming and public dialogue on the issues shaping Canada’s future.

Operational Readiness
Critical steps to support funding, staffing, and leadership were built out, moving the organization from a volunteer-driven intiative into its next phase of growth.

Next Steps

We are now working with The Other Hill on implementation strategies. We look forward to seeing this work act as a catalyst for civic conversation and meaningful community connection in Ottawa’s most historic neighbourhood.
